Looking for Some Ways to Boost Your Self-Esteem?
Having self-confidence is imperative to living a happy, healthy lifestyle. While it would be great to feel good about yourself every day, we know that in the real world, some days are good and some days are not so good. What do we do on the not-so-good days? How do we begin to feel better about ourselves? Take a look at some of the ways we found that can give your self-esteem a boost!
- Get Moving
- Set Goals
- Happy Thoughts
- Be Grateful
- Praise Yourself
- Stop Comparing Yourself
- Stand Tall and Straight
While this may seem easy and obvious, the initial step to getting moving can actually be really hard. Don’t think about it and just do it. Get out of bed, wash yourself up, brush your teeth, get dressed, and then see how you feel. The simple process of getting ready for the day may be just what you need to start feeling better!
Smiling is something really special. The action of smiling truly helps you feel good. Smile at yourself in the mirror, smile at a friend, or smile at someone you don’t know. Smiles can elevate your mood and increase your self-confidence. And who knows, you may even help someone else feel better by sharing one of your own smiles.
No matter how big or how small the goal, the process of having something to work toward can improve your self-esteem. Goals don’t have to be extreme or too hard to achieve. Set a goal that’s simple and easily attainable, such as “I will take a 5-minute walk today”. By completing this goal, you will feel accomplished and that will make you happy!
Think happy thoughts!
What makes you happy? Think about all the little things that make you smile. A flower. A daydream. Wearing the perfect pair of jeans. Enjoying your favorite food. Reading a good book. Give your self-esteem a little boost just by thinking happy thoughts.
Not only does the action of moving alone get your body feeling good, but it also gets your body looking good! Exercise reduces stress and gives you a sense of accomplishment, which in turn, improves your mental health and increases your self-confidence.
So go for a bike ride, take a camping trip, or go kayaking!
Mindfulness is a way for you to recognize and be aware. Let your senses guide you. See. Hear. Smell. Taste. Touch. For example: See the colors of nature. Hear the birds chirping outside. Smell the fresh flowers blooming. Taste the salt in the air. Feel the wind on your face. What do you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch? Being mindful is a wonderful way to inspire happy feelings.
Maybe you have a lot, maybe you have a little, but you will always have something to be grateful for. Recognize what you are grateful for and appreciate it. Be Grateful for your family. Don’t take the food on your table or the clothes on your back for granted, Be Grateful. Be grateful for your best friend. The act of being grateful promotes a positive mindset and can boost your self-esteem.
Love yourself a little. Think or say something nice about yourself. This may be a challenge, especially if you’re feeling down, but find something to commend yourself for. It can be for something physical, emotional, or just a general compliment. Giving yourself a little bit of love is a great way to build your confidence.
We all do this. We compare ourselves to other people. How we look, how we talk, or how we work. And so on. We need to stop. Everyone is on his or her own journey and we need to realize that our path is different from everyone else’s. So stop comparing, just do you, and you’ll feel better.
Yes, stand up straight and hold your head up high. Take a moment, and you will feel self-assured and more confident. Go ahead and give it a try!
Boosting your self-esteem can be a challenge, but it is definitely possible. Different things will work for different people, and you just need to find what works for you. So, even if you think it seems tough or you think it’s not for you, give these ideas a try. You just may be surprised at what you find, and more importantly, you may even feel a bit better about yourself!
